Best For You

The One app is Best For You’s app of the month for March 2024.

A graphic introducing the app of the month: One (Mind Of My Own). There’s an image of a phone with lines coming out of it to form an arrow shape. There’s also the One logo: a white lightning bold in a purple circle on a green background.
About One (Mind Of My Own)

The One (Mind Of My Own) app is a tool that young people can use to tell trusted adults about what’s going on in their life. It’s available in your web browser as well as as an app.

When you start to create an update, there are five types to choose from: my life, share my good news, sort a problem, my wellbeing, and this is me. Each one asks slightly different things. Most of the questions the One app asks are multiple choice, with space to write down extra details and add your own answers if you want to.

One you’ve added everything you want to say, the One app turns your answers into a PDF statement for you. You can choose whether to email the statement to yourself or someone else (as long as you know their email address). Some teams that support young people are registered on the app to make sharing statements easier, but it doesn’t matter if your team isn’t there. You can always find the statements you’ve created in the past in your account on the One app. Having an account with a username and password means you can log out if you need to (for example, if you use a shared computer).

Some young people use One to update trusted adults like social workers or people at CAMHS, but you can also use it to tell parents, carers, or teachers how things are going.

The One app asks questions about things like what’s good and not good in your life, what you’d like to change in your life, how you cope when things aren’t going well, what you’re finding difficult, and how you feel about yourself. It can also support you to communicate about problems, including if you want to make a complaint.

There’s also information about your rights, including specific information for young people who are looked-after or in care.

Two screenshots from the One app. The first shows the home screen of the app, which welcomes you and asks you what you’d like to do (my life, share my good news, sort a problem, my wellbeing, this is me, my rights, or call childline. The second screenshot shows a question: ‘How do you cope when things aren’t going well? The options are: be kind to myself, I hurt myself, be by myself, I take it out on other people, eat chooclate, speak to someone I trust, get help online, and try and block it out.
