Eating disorders are complex mental illnesses. People with eating disorders use disordered eating behaviours as a way to cope with things that are happening or the way they feel. These disordered eating behaviours can include: limiting how much you eat, eating large quantities of food at once,  and getting rid of food in unhealthy ways (such as making yourself sick, missing laxatives, fasting, or excessive exercise). Eating disorders are about feelings – they’re not all about the food itself.

Nip in the Bud

Nip in the Bud was set up to encourage awareness about mental health disorders in children and young people. The charity works with mental health professionals to produce short films for teaching staff, parents, carers, and others working with primary school children. The information in the videos highlights the positive benefit of early diagnosis of mental health issues.
