NHS Drink Free Days
The NHS Drink Free Days app encourages people to choose days to go drink-free and provides practical support to help them avoid alcohol on those days.
What can you do in the NHS Drink Free Days app?
The first time you use the app, it asks you to select goals or reasons to drink less, including wanting to save money, sleep better, or improve mood. You then enter which days you usually drink, and information about the drinks you typically have on those days, including the strength and how much you drink.
You then identify at least three days that will be drink-free days for the upcoming week and make a ‘pledge’ to not drink on those days. You can choose to set a notification reminder about staying drink-free.
You then track which days are drink-free. You don’t enter any information about what you do drink on any days.
As you keep using the app, you can see your progress, including drink-free days, completed pledges, and ‘savings’ in money and calories.
The app also has information, including ideas for drinking less and links to some mental health resources.
NHS Drink Free Days app: the details
What ages is it for?
The App Store gives it an age rating of 17+ because it has frequent and intense alcohol references.
Google Play gives it a PEGI 16 rating for use of alcohol/tobacco.
The app asks for your age and says you must be 18 or over.
Who made the app?
Does it mention calories?
Yes. One of the goal options at the start is to lose weight. The app also tells you the ‘extra calories’ you consume from alcohol based on your typical drinking (and how many chocolate bars the number of calories represents) and how many calories you then ‘save’ through drink-free days.
