Try Dry
Try Dry is an app designed to help people who are looking to cut down their drinking or stop drinking, whether as part of a challenge (like Dry January) or long-term.
It centres around a tracker where you track how much you drink and the impact that drinking has – but it also allows you to set goals and collect rewards.
What can you do in the Try Dry app?
You need to create an account in the Try Dry app.
Each day, you can track whether you stayed ‘dry’, drank alcohol, or drank alcohol as planned. If you drink, you can keep track of exactly what you’ve had (including the alcohol percentage, size, and cost).
You can also rate your mood, energy, sleep, and cravings, as well as adding notes to help you reflect.
There are other features to keep you motivated. If you set up a ‘baseline’ of how much you usually drink, you can compare how much you’ve cut down (and how much you’ve saved). You can also set specific goals, around limiting units or staying dry for certain amount of time. And there’s a quiz to help you find out how risky your drinking is to your health.
You can earn badges for trying and completing challenges, drinking less than your baseline, and drinking 14 or fewer units a week. And you can choose to complete missions, badges you can claim for not drinking during common ‘trigger’ situations like going out for a meal, to a festival, or on a night out.
There are also links to tips and tricks, as well as links to extra support if you’re struggling.
Try Dry app: the details
What ages is it for?
The App Store gives it an age rating of 17+ because it has frequent and intense alcohol references and infrequent and mild medical treatment information.
Google Play gives it a PEGI 3 age rating and says the content of apps with this rating is considered suitable for all age groups.
The app requires you to be 18 to use some features like the alcohol risk quiz.
Who made the app?
Does it mention calories?
Yes. If you fill out the baseline information, it tells you how many calories your baseline drinking is and then displays ‘calories saved’ on the homepage of the app.
You can edit the calories in your baseline in the app’s settings, so you could change it to ‘0’ to avoid a number displaying in the ‘calories saved’ slot.
